| We pride ourselves on the benefits we bring to our students. Our students show marked improvement in school and in extra-curricular activities. Playing video games can be either good, bad or indifferent for kids (depending on the specific game being played, how much time is spent, etc.). Programming and designing video games, however, is ALWAYS beneficial for children, and is a great use of the time they spend on the computer. We always encourage feedback and questions from parents. Please feel free to call us anytime, at (516) 629-5333. Or email us at info@gbalearning.com. Frequently Asked Questions: What benefits will my child gain by studying Video Game Development? The way we structure our curricula, students use and strengthen many of the skills and knowledge sets that they are acquiring in school. Students use and strengthen math, language, communication, science, logical and critical thinking skills - as well as gaining self-confidence. And our students are highly motivated, because they are doing something they love - creating their own video games. What is the age range of Game Builders Academy students? Most of our classes and summer camp programs are for students in 5th - 12th grade. We have, however, had successful students as young as 3rd grade. The way we structure our course material, and the individual attention given to students, guarantee that every single student is challenged and always growing and progressing, no matter what age. What is the teacher-to-student ratio in the classroom? We try to maintain a minimum of 1 teacher for every 4 students, a 4-to-1 teacher-to-student ratio. (For example, a class of 12 students would have at least 3 instructors in the room.) Because programming games can be complex at times, it often requires some one-on-one help during class. We always make sure that we have enough instructors in the classroom so that every student can receive the individual attention and help they need to succeed. At the same time, we have enough instructors to keep the class moving along at a fun pace, even while other instructors are working one-on-one with students. We feel this is an extremely important part of the success of our students, and we pride ourselves on our high teacher-to-student ratio. Will my child work share a computer in class? No. Each child in our classes works on their own computer. This is very important. This type of design and programming work must be done fully hands-on, and it's important that each student do all of the work themselves. Children never share computers in class.Where do you hold classes? We currently hold Game Builders Academy classes at Hofstra University, in Hempstead, New York and at The Newton Institute, in Bayside, New York. When are classes and programs scheduled?
